SCRIPTed- A Community Collaborative on Death & Dying
Journey Books and CUE Cards- Your personalized end-of-life planner
Journey Books
Journey Books are a creative way to keep and organize your end-of-life wishes. Think of it as a cross between a planner, a business card holder, and a scrapbook. For every detail of your end-of-life plan, you can make a page with a pocket to keep the related information, and a business card for the person or organization that will help your loved ones follow through with your wishes.
SCRIPTed co-hosts free workshops to help participants create their own Journey Books, and facilitates connections with allies who offer guidance and support in carrying out final wishes.
CUE Cards
CUE stands for Connect, Understand, and Empower.
SCRIPTed CUE cards are used with or without the Journey Book. These cards can have contact information for our SCRIPTed Allies, or general information that you want your loved ones to know about.
The most important part of end-of-life planning is to "WRITE IT DOWN", as death doula Joni emphatically and repeatedly tells those attending her Life Cafe. CUE Cards give simple, clear prompts, so others know what to do or say in the moment, especially when you cannot speak for yourself.
Building your script

Every end-of-life journey is unique, but here are some common themes that can help guide your planning:
- Legal and Practical- wills, POA, advance directives, ID, digital legacy
- Medical & End-of-Life Care- Hospice, MAiD, POLST
- Intention & Planning- Personal wishes, rituals, music, "final touches"
- Healing and Nature based- Eco burial, shrouds, composting, home funerals
- Emotional & Relational- Grief, conflict, forgiveness, family support
- Identity & Inner Life- Gender, belief systems, ancestry
- Ceremony & Legacy- Letters, art, storytelling, memory-making
- Venues & hosts- Event planning, home hosting, site logistics, post-death coordination (e.g. transport to funeral home or burial site).
the scripted allies
I’ve always loved a good metaphor — especially ones that borrow from theater. After all, life really is a series of scenes, entrances and exits, lines we deliver, and the roles we choose (or fall into). Planning for the final scene deserves the same care as any well-told story.
We're not doing this alone. Behind every scene is someone who helps make it real. SCRIPTed Allies are professionals and service providers who are trained to understand the importance of your plan — and honor it. Whether you’re completing your living will, hiring a hair stylist for your final scene, or making sure your wishes to have your remains turned into a tree will be honored, these certified Allies are committed to clarity, compassion, and follow-through.
When you meet with an Ally, you may receive a business card or other helpful material to include in your Journey Book — a CUE that someone is listening, supportive, and ready to help carry your wishes forward. One scene at a time, your story becomes a plan others can carry out with confidence.
If you only do ONE thing to prepare for your end-of-life, it should be completing your Advance Directive.
National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD) happens annually on April 16th. Set a goal to have it completed by then!
Come join us for "SCRIPTed Endings" at Lakewood Public Library on July 19th from 11:30-2:30, co-hosted with Alternate Endings LLC, where we'll collaborate on end-of-life planning in a creative, supportive and informative environment.
